The National Pedagogical Commission for English Module

About us

CPNMA stands for National Pedagogical Commission for English Module. We are a group of experts tasked with implementing an English language training program to meet the needs of doctoral students in their respective fields. Our ultimate goal is to ensure the success of the roadmap set by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESRS) according to clearly defined objectives.

Training Objectives:

The objectives of this doctoral training program in English students from non-English academic discipline) aim to develop students’ autonomy in using the English language in reading, writing, listening, and interaction activities, ultimately achieving a B2 level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The CEFR, which is the framework for this teaching-learning process, emphasizes communicative competence. These competencies are described on a six-level scale:

  1. Introductory or Discovery level (A1)
  2. Intermediate or Survival level (A2)
  3. Threshold level (B1)
  4. Advanced or Independent User level (B2)
  5. Autonomous or Effective Operational Proficiency level (C1)
  6. Mastery level (C2)

Implementation Strategy:

The English proficiency among non-native English-speaking doctoral students varies widely, leading to a significant disparity in linguistic levels. To address this disparity, we have implemented the following:

  1. Online placement test to assess each learner’s proficiency level.
  2. Development of an educational program based on task-based approach covering the four skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking for the four CEFR levels (A1, A2, B1, B2) in general English.
  3. Achieving a B2 level according to the CEFR.

The program includes:

For each level:

  1. 30 hours of interactive online courses on Moodle platform.
  2. In-person workshops dedicated to oral expression and presentations at the end of each session.
  3. an achievement test administered to validate the level attained.
